Fear Street: Prom Queen, which premiered on May 23, is the streamer's newest installment of horror mystery drenched in '80s aesthetics. Based loosely onR.L. Stine's beloved teen horror novel, the R-rated flick transports viewers back to 1988 to the town of Shadyside, where a group of high school girls battle for the coveted title of prom queen — only to find themselves being targeted one by one by a mystery killer. With its vintage vibes and slow-burn suspense, the film, directed by Matt Palmer, captivates audiences with its brutal, twisty climax and echoes horror classics likeScreamandHeathers. She's joined by other contenders,BarbieactressAriana Greenblatt,Anora's Ella Rubin, plus Finna Straza and Rebecca Ablack. Meanwhile,The Summer I Turned Prettyactor David Iacono joins the cast as Lori's love interest, Tyler Torres, andSuzanna Sonplays Lori's best friend, Megan Rogers. While the originalFear Streettrilogy leaned heavily into supernatural horror,Prom Queenfavors a whodunit structure, setting the stage for a killer reveal that fans didn't see coming. So what exactly happened at the end ofFear Street: Prom Queen—and who was behind the bloody chaos? Let's break down the ending ofFear Street: Prom Queen. Warning:Fear Street: Prom Queenspoilers ahead! Alan Markfield/Netflix ©2025 Fear Street: Prom Queenends in carnage when Megan realizes some of the other prom queen nominees, Christy Renault (Greenblatt), Melissa (Rubin) and Debbie (Ablack) have vanished. Lori and Tiffany Falconer (Strazza), however, are still notably alive on the dance floor. Megan attempts to warn Lori, who's lured into the basement by her crush, Tyler. He tries to convince Lori to end her friendship with Megan, but then a masked killer with a red cloak brutally murders Tyler with an axe. Megan eventually finds Lori, and the two are able to escape out a window in the basement and warn the crowd just as Lori is crowned prom queen. The killer storms into the dance, killing several students and hacking Principal Wayland's (Darrin Baker) lower arm off. Lori ultimately stops the villain by stabbing him in the eye with her prom queen crown, and he eventually reveals his true identity. But even with the killer arrested, the true horror isn't over. Lori stays with Tiffany for comfort, only to discover she and her mother, Nancy Falconer (Katherine Waterston), were in on the killings. In a violent showdown, Lori kills both women and emerges from the house bloodied but alive, ending the film with the epic line, "I'm Lori f------ Granger." Alan Markfield/Netflix ©2025 The masked killer behind the prom night murders is revealed to be Dan Falconer (Chris Klein), the father of nominee Tiffany. His reasoning? He knows how much his wife and Tiffany wanted "this," referring to the title of Queen. After slaughtering the other contenders and attacking students at the dance, Dan is unmasked after Lori stabs him in the eye with her crown. Alan Markfield/Netflix ©2025 Lori survives the brutal events of prom night, but not without a fight. After discovering that the other prom queen nominees have been murdered, she narrowly escapes Dan with help from Megan. In a final showdown, Lori stabs Dan in the eye with her crown. But the terror doesn't end there. After offering to stay with Tiffany for support, Lori is ambushed at the Falconer home by both Tiffany and her mother, Nancy, who are revealed as co-conspirators. Lori ultimately kills them both in self-defense. Tiffany falls from her balcony and is fatally impaled by the staircase baluster, and Nancy is hit in the head with a trophy by Lori. In classic slasher fashion, the protagonist then walks out of the house alive, traumatized, but victorious. Alan Markfield/Netflix ©2025 Fear Street: Prom Queenserves as a standalone slasher that shifts away from the supernatural focus of theoriginalFear Streettrilogy. While the first three films (Fear Street: 1994, 1978and1666,respectively) are centered on a group of teenagers trying to reverse the curse on their town, the newest installment leans into a murder mystery vibe. And while it doesn't directly tie into the previous movies, it's still rooted in the cursed town of Shadyside and carries over the series' themes of teen trauma and small-town horror. As director Palmer toldTudum, "I love that Shadyside feels so relevant to our world now; it could really be any present day blue collar town in America." Alan Markfield/Netflix ©2025 As of May 2025, Netflix has not officially announced a sequel toFear Street: Prom Queen. However, theFear Streetfranchise has a history of expanding its universe, and with 57 original books to choose from, more films may be on the horizon. Read the original article onPeople
